Image Eleksen / Peratech core technology is the touch-sensitive textile, ElekTex. With all the properties of fabric, it forms an innovative, versatile and durable control interface and is designed to transform soft-goods products into interactive devices.

ElekTex enables soft, flexible and lightweight interface design between users and electronic devices.

ElekTex’s key capability is knowing where it is being touched and responding to the pressure. This information is then interpreted to form an action which becomes a command to control an electronic device. With ElekTex the type of touch can also be determined, so it can distinguish between simple presses, swipes, strokes and gestures.
ElekTex is a laminate of five fabric layers which are arranged to form a resistive touchpad. The outer and central layers are conductive and there are two insulating layers around the central layer.

The sensor is contact activated; when touched the layers are compressed together to form an electronic circuit. Through this action, positional X and Y values are generated together with a low resolution pressure measurement (Z).

These outputs are measured and interpreted by the associated control electronics which convert the activation into a command for a target electronic device such as an iPod, a mobile/smart phone or personal computer.

The sensor pad is powered by the electronic control unit that is connected to the sensor. This control electronic interprets the signals from the fabric according the layout of the outer fabric that corresponds to the underlying software algorithm.

The by far biggest advantage from the ElekTex sensor pad is the in can be used and programmed for any situation and design, it is not limited to the standard solution ElekTex is offering. It is up to the product designer and the control software how to use gestures, stokes, press motions.
