We just covered some new interactive T-Shirts but there is ‘one more thing’: the Drum T-Shirt is pushing the limits of interactive clothing into new a new dimension.

ThinkGeek has proven in the past to think geek out-of-the-box when it comes to funky, innovative T-Shirts.

The latest T-Shirt invention, the Electronic Drum Kit Shirt, transforms the chest of musicians into drums so they can perform like our chest drumming ancestors have done long before the Stone Age.

Joking aside, I find the idea cool. Hitting the drums on the shirt with your finger will produce the drum sound through the built-in speaker housed in the battery box. Don’t expect ‘big’ sound coming out but the idea is amazing.

All drums on the shirt are playable and offer 7 different drum sounds to which you can rock away by punching your chest. The battery housing takes 4x AAA batteries, the speaker and a volume control to give you a bit of a control of your drum solo.

I like the statement on ThinkGeek’s website: “We could do what those other supposedly geeky apparel companies do and print a regular t-shirt with a cool looking picture of a drum kit on the front… “

That’s right, why not using today’s technology to create another dimension on how to use our ‘everyday’ outfit in a funky, geeky way. For a price of $29.99 you buy a lot of fun.

T-Shirts with EL (Electroluminescent) displays have come a long way. What started out as novel idea with only very few variations to choose from has evolved into a colorful and variation rich segment.

There are millions of different designs available to be used to send specific message of the wearer out to the world. The drawback with all those T-Shirts is, you have to choose your message and wear it until you replace the T-Shirt. There is little option to add or change the graphic unless you got to buy another T-Shirt.

S.A.D stands for ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder’ or also known as winter depression, is a mood disorder whose sufferers experience normal mental health throughout most of the year, but experience depressive symptoms in the winter when it is darker and less sunshine.

I think I am not suffering from SAD but I do like to be as much and long as possible in summer like conditions.

To help a friend who does suffer under SAD, graphic designer Keith Hancox designed the S.A.D T-shirt 01 for him, where the sun image is over printed with black heat sensitive ink which turns transparent at 32ºc. So as soon as the temperature raises to this level the sun will shine for his friend, cheering up his mood and hopefully minimize the SAD symptoms.

The S.A.D T-shirt is not exactly related to wearable electronic but I like the idea heat sensitive ink is used and imagine what cool effects could be made using conductive textiles underneath that warm up when supplied with electrical power. The heating up could be controlled via sensor input for example of heart rate to show ‘sensible’ design effects. Got it?

My favorite T-Shirt brand Music and Sons added a new dimension to their Music T-Shirt range: consumer can vote on their site which of the many Music T-Shirt designs should make it to a final product into the online store.

Cool idea to be involved in the final product selection, a kind of interactivity and involvement more companies could offer as well.

My voting is out and I am checking now to see if I will find my favorite designs in the shop, need to stock up for the coming summer season.

The selection is not like the ID concept where you can mix and match colors and printing. I think it is better that way, who else than Italian fashion designer create the worlds most famous outfits. The only problem with this: I like them ALL.

The simple solution of the Music T-Shirts, integrating permanently the headphone cable in the T-Shirt with the audio connector in the pocket and the headphone connector near the neck takes out the acrobatic cable management many people perform before heading out on the street.

I keep looking around for something similar useful but haven’t found any better solution that is as convenient to manage the headphone cable.
