Thanks to the help of our readers we have been tipped off to an online shop that sells the sexy LumiTops from LumiGram we have posted about a month ago.

LumiGram uses Italian’s Luminex unique light emitting fabric which has as its light element fiber optics woven into conventional textiles. We have posted about Luminex here and here and here.

Unlike light sources such as LEDs or EL technology, the light coming from Luminex fabric is ’subtle and mysterious’ with a touch of magic, creating a mystic atmosphere, at least that’s what I can imagine it will look like in action.

The collection is called ‘LumiTops‘ and will be a ‘must have’ outfit for for Clubbing, Parties or to show off the latest innovation in fashion meets technology. They look sexy, stunning, just beautiful.

Some time ago I had the opportunity to see and touch this light fabric from Luminex on a sample patch. What I like a lot on this fabric is: the light somehow radiates, comes out of the fabric and is not like switching on a light bulb or an advertisement sign.

Sure, this fabric does not allow to show images or even change the once selected color but you get real magic into your clothing with this stuff.

The power for the magic comes from 3 AA batteries hidden in the belt. The light fabric does not heat up, can be hand washed with water up to 70 degree Celsius with natural soap.

Unfortunately, those light emitting tops are not included in LumiGram’s online store but they do have some table clothes and bags up for sale. To get one of the LumiTops you need to get in touch with them to have one made for you.

LumiGram did not forget the other half of the population and has a sexy looking shirt for men as well in the program, again only available on special request, nothing on the online store either.

Are illuminated clothing and fashion accessories the next trend? First there are the Fabric Switches in Jackets and accessories but Light Emitting Fabrics seem to be the second most desired object of Wearable Electronics. The GlowFur range created by designer David Lee is a class in itself.

How does the magic work?
David Lee does not give much details about the glow is created but says the technology is complicated. It involves wiring and batteries. You turn the lighting on with a switch that hides in the lining or pocket and use batteries that need to be replaced after about eight to 10 hours of constant wear. The garments don’t heat up, and they won’t electrocute you. Cleaning? Throw Glow-Fur clothes into the washing machine and wash with Woolite on a gentle setting.
