Fibretronic introduced its latest innovation in wearable electronic accessories the Wearable Bluetooth module at Avantex 2007 in June and is now commercially available. The BT-MOD, as it is called, is a self-contained soft module for the hands-free operation of cellphones.

The wearable Bluetooth module incorporates a speaker, a microphone, call answer/hang-up button, speaker volume controls and a internal rechargeable battery which can be charged via a mini USB port.

This represents basically the standard functions of such BT hands-free devices except the addition of the speaker which allow you to either make phone calls without earplug or listen to music from your cellphone without the need of headphones plugged in all the time.

What makes the wearable Bluetooth module unique is the soft body with textile cover that gives the whole module a soft touch feel.

The module can be simply attached to a garment like jacket or to bags using the Velcro on the backside of the module. This allows the placement of the wearable Bluetooth module anywhere on the body or bag. Can be very practical especially by outdoor activities.

Talking about the great outdoors, the wearable Bluetooth module has been designed to be weatherproof for outdoors use in snow, trek or for street-wear.

It would be interesting if this module is available in retail but there is no mentioning about that on Fibretronic’s Website. We will check out with them and let you know if the wearable Bluetooth module is or will be sold to end consumer as accessory.

The Wearable Electronic expert Eleksen did it again ….. surprising the world with a twist to their existing fabric keyboard range: the Double Sided USB Keyboard.

This concept, presented by Eleksen during the 3GSM in Barcelona last week has a different set of keys on each side. On the top side is a standard set of QWERTY keys for text entry and whatever work you can do on a ‘normal’ computer keyboard but if you flip the keyboard over, you get the basics of a numeric key-pad, optimized key layout for page navigation and quick access keys for music.

The Douple-sided Keyboard is USB powered what let us assume this keyboard can be used with any device (incl. computer) that support USB keyboards.

A gravity switch in the plastic control module determines which side is facing up and which key mapping to use. Very smart keyboard control software solution that will act differently depending on side of the keyboard is facing up.

Amazing the creativity of Eleksen! As far as we can tell, there is no other technology that can do that, having two different key layouts and react depending which side is facing to the user. And all this on a thin fabric sheet.

With this Double-sided Keypoard, Eleksen is showing a very smart solution to overcome the usability problems from small, handheld devices. Roll it up when not needed but have a full size, multifunctional keyborad on hand anytime and anywhere.

This keyboard is a demonstrator but we hope it will be picked up soon by a company to commercialize it. It’s so amazing, it’s a must have.

We got a tip today from one of our reader, Chris, with the link to the YouTube video below about the G-Tech Keyboard. Thanks Chris for the heads up.

The video shows how to set up the link between a Blackberry and the Keyboard. An excellent video which we highly recommend to check out if you are interested in this keyboard or just want to see how it actually works.

But there is even more. The creator of this video, smartfabricguy – his YouTube name – has posted 19, in words NINETEEN, videos about the G-Tech Keyboard on YouTube. Follow the link to the smartfabricguy on YouTube and watch all of them.

We reported two days ago about the Fabric Keyboard from Mobis and stated that this is the first distributor of Eleksen’s fabric keyboard.

Today, we found on G-Tech’s website that they actually shipping this keyboard already. It can be ordered for US$ 145.- on this online shopping site.

Unfortunately, the price is ‘really’ quite high for a, I must admit, very useful product. Let’s hope that over (short) time, the price will come down a bit to make it a ‘must have’ and affordable item for the ultra mobile road warrior.

Mobile accessories maker Mobis is introducing the RoKy² Bluetooth-enabled fabric keyboard in Asia.

Powered by two AAA-sized batteries, the RoKy² is water repellent and comes with a stand for mobile phones and PDAs. The power of this two batteries should last for 10 hours continuing typing. That’s quite reasonable usage time considering that typing on such small devices will be usually done only in urgent or emergency situations.

And for such urgent situations, this keyboard gives a great helping hand. Stylus and graffiti input might be good for short notes but writing an email of considerable length / content might be too much for graffiti.

The RoKy² is compatible with most of the current handheld operating systems such as Palm, BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile.

We have posted here some time ago about a Fabric Keyboard from Eleksen and the RoKy² looks like as it is the same Eleksen offered to third parties. Mobis seems now is the first distributor to pick it up and bring it (finally) to us, the consumer.

According to CNET Asia, the RoKy² should retail for US$ 124.99 a price that might be a bit ‘over the top’ considering the cost of the devices of some of the handhelds which are on the same or even lower level.

Let’s hope on actual product launch, a more sensible price tag will show up on this good and very helpful add-on for everyone looking for the ultimate mobility.
