Haute Technology Laboratory

Wearable Technology research got another boost in form of a $1 million funding from Shima Seiki USA, a leader in 3-D computerized knitting systems, for a ‘Haute Technology Laboratory‘ led by  Genevieve Dion,  Assistant Professor and Fashion Design Program Director at the Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.

Genevieve Dion’s research activity for the past few years circled around the identification of suitable and workable production methods of wearable technology.

Set up as multidisciplinary research initiative the ‘Shima Seiki Haute Technology Laboratory’ aims to become a leader in the field of Smart Textiles.

Cooperation between Academia and Industry underline the (business) appeal of wearable technology, it’s potential to ‘revolutionize’ many areas of our life, areas such as technology, fabrication of garments and last but not least – the benefits for consumer in form of a long overdue upgrade of our wardrobe, be it work wear or Haute Couture.
